Your most-asked questions
How do I sign up?
In order to participate, please visit our Devpost, create an account and sign up for our hackathon.
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an event where people, alone or in a team, create a project within a given time frame. During hackathons, there are usually various workshops, for learning new skills, as well as guest speakers that you can interact with. In the end, all the projects will be judged, and the best ones will win various prizes.
So…will there be hacking?
Yes, although not in the way you probably think. You won't be breaking into security systems or anything like that. Hacking, in this case, is used to describe the process of creating something quickly and roughly. That is why we don't expect you to have a finished and polished project, but do expect some sort of basic functionality.
Is this free?
Yes! Recess Hacks is free to attend.
Can I still attend if I don't know how to code?
For starters, you do not need to submit code! No-code creations are cool, too. Just make sure that it's a functional creation, not just a design.
In addition, you could team up with other people! Many teams have a designer who creates design concepts and aesthetics. You could also be the marketer of your project. Being able to present your project effectively in your given time may make or break your presentation. Hackathons need all sorts of people: you don't have to be the one who's coding.
What if I'm new to coding, but I want to learn how to code?
Don't worry! We will have workshops, some of which will introduce you to the basics of programming in a variety of topics and programming languages. We will also have mentors available to help troubleshoot and provide further assistance if needed.
Hackathons are great for helping you learn how to code! Workshops and mentors are here to help you with any problems that may arise.
I want to help out as a mentor, workshop host, or judge!
Thank you! Send us an email here and we'll see how we can work together!
What is the maximum team size? Do I need to have one?
You may work solo or in a team of up to 4 people.
